Jamie and Max are back. Now married to each other, they're still the same guys they used to be emotional, insecure, playful Jamie and quiet, strong, protective Max. There are some small issues in their relationship—such as how incredibly vulnerable Jamie is to any critical words from Max—and they do occasionally argue. But overall, things are going well.
Or at least, Max thinks they are. Until Jamie disappears without a word.
Certain the love of his life is dead, Max suffers the worst depression of his life, tormented by thoughts of Jamie's suffering. And then Jamie reappears, uninjured and apparently perfectly whole. Can Max ever forgive him, even enough to find out why he disappeared, or is their relationship as dead as he thought Jamie was?
Sequel to "You Were Always the One"
Length 25,000 words
Heat level low

God, but I hate to give less than five stars to a Hollis Shiloh novel. She is definitely one of my all-time favorite authors - in any genre. And, to be totally honest, it's my own fault. I gave a rather negative review to the first book in this series, but I still harbored some hope that the boys would have grown up a bit, matured beyond their whiny, hair-trigger, walking-on-eggs relationship.
Sadly, they don't seem to have grown up a bit. Not a smidgen. Jamie is just as spoiled, self-absorbed, whiny and unreasonable as he always was. Any conversation with him brings to mind the old, cynical marriage conversation: "Does this dress make me look fat, honey?". You know, those can't-win-no-matter-you-say conversations, ones that always end with Jamie either pissed off, crying or sulking. I don't know about other people, but this really, really annoys me.
Halfway through the book, Jamie pulls a disappearing act on Max, without one word or any kind of reassurance that he is even still alive. Max, convinced Jamie is dead, goes into mourning and falls apart. Four months later, Jamie shows up at the couple's favorite bar - sporting a mesh shirt, red hair and Daisy Duke shorts.
I hate to say this, because one thing Ms. Shiloh is brilliant at (and one of the main reasons I love her books) is making implausible, totally fantastical things both plausible and moving. Just check out her steampunk novels - you'll know exactly what I mean.
But the reason for Jamie's disappearance was just so over-the-top, so patently unbelievable, that I actually guffawed (I always wanted to use that word in a sentence!) when I read it.
Sorry, but this book obviously did not work for me. If you're a fan of this series, you'll love it, so don't let my skepticism and annoyance stop you from reading it.

And You Still Are Max Jamie Book 2 edition by Hollis Shiloh Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is a definite sequel and the series should be read in order. You should also read book one, YOU WERE ALWAYS THE ONE prior to this review, as it contains spoilers for the first story.
The suspense and emotional drama in Hollis' latest story is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! The story line is fast paced, full of complex twist and turns, evil exes and friends in surprising places . Hang on to your hats boys and girls, because this is one sequel that will blow you away! I must confess that I struggled a little bit with how I felt about this one at first. I fell in love with Jamie and Max during the first book, and I guess I was hoping that the guys would have grown a little bit more emotionally, considering the hurdles they overcame in order to be together. It made me a little bit sad to see that they were still dealing with the insecurities and communication issues that almost derailed their relationship in the beginning. The unexpected nature of And You Still Are adds a whole new layer of challenges for this dynamic couple to face. I ended up thoroughly enjoying the experience, and am looking forward to seeing where the next book takes them!
